Ashlee Becks is an impasto painter specialising in the need to better understand and live with the self. A material sensibility guides the work, with thick impasto mark making acting as a metaphor for self-discovery and healing. Loving, performative, and visceral strokes juxtaposed with intricate detail enables viewers to sense the presence of the artist.
Becks has exhibited across Australia with recent exhibitions at Museum of Brisbane (2023-2025), Artereal Gallery (2025) and Sure Studio (2023). She has been a finalist in the Brisbane Portrait Prize (2024, 2023, 2020), The Brett Whitely Travelling Art Scholarship (2021), the Sunshine Coast Art Prize (2021), the Wyndham Art Prize (2021), and the Clayton Utz (2021) among others. She has been the recipient of the Highly Commended Award at Redland Art Awards (2024), Recommended Artist Award at 40 under 40 (2021), and the Emerging Artist Award at Brisbane Portrait Prize (2020). In 2020, she completed a BFA with Honours at the Queensland College of Art in Meanjin, Brisbane.
